Benefits of Mulch vs. Pinestraw

  • Conserves soil moisture and keeps tree roots cool during hot summer months better than pine straw.
  • Buffers low temperature extremes during winter freezes better than pine straw.
  • Suppresses germination of weed seeds better than pine straw.
  • More cost effective than pine straw. One application per year for mulch vs. recommended 2 applications of pine straw per year.
  • Helps provide unity among a group of planting beds and defines bed lines.
  • Less flammable than pine straw.
  • Helps prevent erosion better than pine straw.
  • Because mulch is 10 times heavier, it stays in place better than pine straw.
  • Mulch contrasts with plants better than pine straw. Creating a better aesthetic look for your property.
